The Program
Develop the Whole Rider.
Catamount builds coaching around each rider’s experience, goals, and circumstances. Purposeful training and shared team experiences develop athletic ability and independence while respecting school, family, recovery, and the joy of riding.
What Coaching Looks Like
Individual guidance, backed by a team.
- A personal development plan shaped around the rider’s goals.
- Structured training with regular feedback.
- Periodic assessments to review progress.
- Preparation for important races.
- Opportunities to learn from coaches and specialist partners.
Coaches and riders adjust priorities as fitness, goals, and life circumstances change. Families stay involved through regular communication and a shared commitment to healthy development.

The Team Experience
Our planned November–August season brings riders together for team rides, technical skills sessions, learning opportunities, camps, and competition. Catamount complements local NICA participation, supporting development before, during, and beyond the school race season.
The Catamount R.A.N.G.E. Approach
Five disciplines. One complete athlete.
R.A.N.G.E. connects five essential areas of development, with priorities tailored to each rider.
R— Recovery & Resilience
Build healthy habits around sleep, rest, stress, and mental preparation, learning when to push and when to recover.
A— Aerobic Fitness & Endurance
Develop sustainable fitness through age-appropriate endurance training, pacing, and consistency, while learning to understand progress.
N— Nutrition & Fueling
Learn practical habits for everyday nutrition, hydration, and fueling before, during, and after training and competition.
G— Ground Skills & Racecraft
Improve bike handling, line choice, climbing, descending, cornering, and race tactics to make confident decisions across changing terrain.
E— Essential Strength & Power
Build strength, mobility, coordination, and power through age-appropriate training that supports performance and long-term physical resilience.
Coaches consider all five areas together, helping riders recognize strengths, set priorities, and take increasing ownership of their development.
Three Paths. One Team.
Riders bring different ambitions to Catamount, with shared coaching principles and a common team community.
Regional Racing
Build confidence and consistency through local and regional competition, purposeful training, race preparation, and shared experiences with teammates.
National Ambitions
Prepare for select national-level competition with structured training and individual guidance, while keeping school, recovery, and long-term development in balance.
Adventure Pursuits
Explore challenges beyond traditional cross-country racing, including events such as Grasshoppers, Downieville, and the Lemurian. Build fitness and confidence for new terrain and distances.
These paths are flexible: riders can move among them as their interests and ambitions evolve.
